Aunty Ann Designs is a delightful shop featuring the newest, soft and cuddly hand crafted sock monkey creations and traditional sock monkeys. You will also find a variety of baby accessories including tutus and bibs.

I have been in the home sewing business for 28+ years, most overlapping a full time government job. I am the mother of 2 grown kids and have four beautiful grandchildren, 3 boys and 1 brand new baby girl! I've been sewing since I was a teenager. My 80 year old mother helps me create the monkey sock dolls.

My husband of almost 40 years offers very creative suggestions that are sometimes funny and sometimes helpful. I'm inspired by my grandkids, who constantly are making me laugh and are the primary joy of our semi-retired life!"

Aunty Ann Designs began her home business in 1983. She created her own patterns and they received copyright protection in 1992. Since then, she has won State and Local Textile Sweepstakes High Point, Peoples Choice and Superintendent's Choice awards.

"As long as I can remember I have always been doing something crafty. I mostly make jewelry now but I like to mix it up & make a quilt, a card, a journal or scrapbook. I always have a list of projects I want to do.
I started making jewelry almost 2 years ago. Stampington’s Belle Armoire Jewelry publication really inspired me. Ever since then one of my dreams was to be published in one of Stampingtons’ publications. Well, on April 1, 2010, that dream came true. One of my necklaces & rings were featured in the premier issue of Stampington’s Jewelry Affaire."

They are the joys of my life and make my days brighter!” She works out of her fully licensed kitchen in New York State. She offers a variety of Belgian chocolate treats and snacks that include Dark Chocolate Truffles; Ooey, Gooey, Goodness; Peppermint and Dark Chocolate Spoons; Chocolate Pecan Pie Candy and many more. Her Chocolate Caramel Truffles were featured on the front page of Etsy!

Nicole uses only all natural, preservative free products, and as many organic ingredients as possible. All of her packaging is made from recycled products, or purchased from ecologically conscious companies.

“I am really conscious about who I purchase my products from - the majority come from local companies, farms, and shops, however if that is not possible I buy from companies that are known to be eco-friendly/green themselves.”

Nicole’s inspiration came from her love of good food. “Candy making is a great stress reliever and creative outlet for me! Selling my products locally and online is a fun and rewarding endeavor!” One of her best-selling products is her all natural, healthy Granola. Several of the local restaurants even feature her Granola on their menus. All her goodies are made in small batches to preserve the taste and quality of the product, and to ensure that there is no waste.

Erin Cross at CrosStitching is a happy wife and stay at home mom of a sweet 1 yr old boy. She has been sewing and crafting since she was little with her mom and sisters. She was taught to crochet by her great grandmother at 11yrs old. Crafting is something she has always enjoyed as a hobby and was delighted when she could turn the hobby into her first Etsy store in December of 2008.
Erin loves sewing and crochet. Her favorite products are those she makes for babies such as crochet hats, outfits, hair clippies, booties, and headbands. She sells a variety of items in her store and enjoys designing new items.
Functionality plays a big part of what she makes. Erin designs many things for her son and for friends before selling them on Etsy. Spring Rain Fabric Basket

I recently finished a room sized rag rug. Since that project, I have been making rag quilts and baskets. I love the look of crocheted fabric strips. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am Lisa Blouin, founder and sole employee of LBs Sewing Sanity. My husband, Marc and I, and our two children - Alexandra (8) and Christian (5) currently live in Springboro Ohio.

What sort of items do you have in your shop?

LBs Sewing Sanity features a rich display of creatively designed embroidered items that include children/adult aprons, baby accessories, specially created bags, golf towels, and more - each designed to express that unique personality. I offer many items that are an inexpensive way to provide a personalized gift that will make an occasion something special. Each item is handmade by myself in my studio here in Springboro. Selections can be made from items I have in stock or from special orders made to customer specifications.

I believe my products offer a quintessential mix of style, quality and hand-crafted value. Having been born in New England, but, grown up in Hawaii and California, I try to combine traditional quality with the freedom of creativity in whatever I do. To me simplicity doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. Personalizing with creative detail changes an ordinary item into something very special.

How long have you been doing your craft?

I have had an on again off again relationship with sewing for as long as I can remember. Although I chose the corporate world until I became a Mom, there has not been an extended period of time when I was not sewing something! Over the last several years, I've done more and more personalized sewing for family and friends. Soon I realized there is the potential to market creatively designed, quality made personalized sewing products.

How long have you had your Etsy shop and what made you decide to take that step to open it?

I completed my research and planning by late 2008, and officially opened LBs Sewing Sanity in November 2008. I opened my Etsy shop in December 2008. I currently have over 90 items in my shop. My husband recently asked me when I would stop introducing new items. My mouth fell to the floor and I asked him how many products does Target carry. The possibilities are endless.

LBs Sewing Sanity books home shows, attends 7-10 craft festivals a year, and is completely in love with ETSY. I absolutely love what I am doing and feel blessed to be a part of this wonderful handmade community!

Do you have any upcoming projects that you want to share with us?

If you are a local customer of mine, I will be at the Springboro, Business Expo March 21st. I will also be at the Bellbrook, Sugar Maple Festival April 18th & 19th.

1. What is your business name?

I have 2 shops, pandys and GriffinGear

2. What is your business about?

My businesses are all about sewing and expressing my creativity

3. How did you start selling on etsy?

I had been doing some craft fairs, a friend told me about etsy and I've been selling here ever since.

4. Where do your inspirations come from?

My inspirations come from everyone, a suggestion from a friend, something I see out and about....I also have lots of crayon sketches on the beer advertisements from restaurants....we will all be having dinner, I get an idea, grab a crayon from the kids and draw it out (beer advertisements work much better than napkins)

5. Is your family supportive of your etsy business?

My husband is supportive of everything I do..including etsy.

6. What was the strangest experience you've ever had when being inspired with a new design?

I got busted at the grocery store, trying to discreetly check out the handle design of another woman's handbag. She gave me the dirtiest look, I said, oh, just checking out your grommets and walked away. She was not impressed.

7. What is the most rewarding aspect of the etsy community for you and your business?

I have met some pretty incredible, very supportive people here. Even though I've never met them, I can honestly say they are very dear friends. As far as my business goes, I've been able to let my creative side flourish. I have a BS in Animal Science and an MBA...not exactly the best choices for creativity. I'm not making money hand over fist, but I'm supporting my fabric habit and trying new things, so I find it very rewarding.

Today's FAM featured shop is The Taffy Box!

Here is my interview with Koryn, and be sure to check out some of her beautiful work below!!!

Let's start with the basic intro - what is your name?

Koryn.

Tell us about yourself. Are you married, have children?

I am married 22 years to Tim who is active duty in the US Air Force and stationed at The Pentagon. We have 4 children, two in college and two in high school. The older three are boys and the youngest is our girl. All of our kids are in music and theater. Both our sons are in singing groups at college which have recorded CD's and perform at state high schools and colleges in Virginia. I taught preschool up until last summer when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am currently half way through my chemo therapy and I wake up every day to another blessing from God. Having Etsy and my craft has been a great way to cope, a distraction in the storm, a light in the dark, a way for me to "run away". It has kept me focused. I also opened a charity Etsy site called Bosom Buddies where I feature other etsy artist's breast cancer awareness items and all I sell in my shop supports the Susan G. Komen Foundation. www.BosomBuddies.etsy.com.

What sort of items do you have in your shop?

Mostly hand stamped jewelry and silver, copper, and some Swarovski. I also do a lot of hand stamped pet tags.

How long have you been doing your craft?

I began making mother's bracelets 15 years ago (the sterling block letter type, bead, etc.) and opened my other etsy shop motherspreciousgems.etsy.com in 2007. The Taffy Box began after that when I just couldn't stop beading, but when I didn't have any custom orders pending! Last year I learned the art of hand stamping.

Where do you find your inspiration for your work?

I love nature, birds, children, serenity, the ocean, and inspiration itself.

How long have you had your Etsy shop and what made you decide to take that step to open it?

I have been on Etsy about 2 years. I stumbled upon Etsy quite by accident but it has been a wonderful catalyst in selling my jewelry and meeting other artists who have given me great inspiration and advice. I feature other etsy artist's on my blog No Strings Attached, and I enjoy networking with other mothers on everything from parenting to how-to's of working from home.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you want to share with us?

I am looking forward to offering a stylish font in my hand stamping line, something more delicate looking. I have also been invited to do some wholesale work and am interested but would like advice from other FAM members who have jumped into that arena.

1. What is your business name?

2. What is your business about?
In my shop you will find hairbows, headbands and hairclips made especially for a princess. I named my shop Pumpkin Pea - this is what we call our daughter Natalie (she is turning 5 this November), who is actually my inspiration behind all of my creations

3. How did you start selling on etsy?
I learned about etsy from my former boss Jill who after her retirement as Assistant Director of Nursing started concentrating on her crafts and started selling on etsy. During that time I had been creating hairclips for my daughter. She actually persuaded me to check out etsy. I trialed selling my hairclips at work and it was received very well so I decided this is something I would like to pursue

4. Where do your inspirations come from?
My inspiration mostly comes from my daughter Natalie. Being an only girl, (I have 2 other boys Nicky 9 and Nathan 7). I love buying clothes for her and I would usually create something to match an outfit that I had bought. I also get my inspirations and ideas from stores (I love Gymboree in particular), magazines and the constant flow of ideas through my head.

5. Is your family supportive of your etsy business?
In the beginning my husband wasn't very supportive of it. When I first started I spent hours and hours online, researching and educating myself on all the business aspects and how to basically run it. He advised me to make sure that my pricing is reflective of the hours I spent making the item. I make things because I love to and I love to share them with others. After a long day at work (I am a full time nurse at a hospital), I always look forward to creating, which I do mostly at night. I consider it my de-stresser. I get excited when I get a sale. My husband now shares that excitement with me (my kids get excited too). I would like to also make mention that my mother is my biggest supporter. She lives with us and she helps me with households work and most of all taking care of my children when me and my husband are away at work

6. What was the strangest experience you've ever had when being inspired with a new design?
When an idea pops in my head, I have to immediately create it and spend all night long perfecting the idea. (I don't really think that I have any strange experiences)

7. What is the most rewarding aspect of the etsy community for you and your business?
The etsy community taught me a lot of things. I learned so much from the forums and made friends along the way. Particularly, FAM helped me along the way. It is such a nice feeling to know that I am part of a smaller family on ETSY. Thanks to everyone especially for this opportunity to be featured,

8. Anything else you would like to share?
I will be having my first craft show this October. I've been busy preparing for it. My business is also successful at work, I have a lot of customers from there (the word is now starting to spread about my business) I wish they could be reflected on my sales but unfortunately, they don't order online.

Quilted Fabric Crib Rail Guard Tutorial

This Quilted Fabric Crib Rail Guard Tutorial is an original design created by me. It is a simple pattern that even a beginner sewer could complete. This tutorial leads you step by step through designing and sewing a quilted crib rail guard protector.

Once all of your materials are gathered, this project should take about three hours to complete for one full length guard. Depending on the size of the rail that you are covering, it may take more or less time.

This 10 page tutorial is a PDF file which includes 38 color photos with 18 steps. This tutorial also has a simple formula to help you customize a design specifically for your crib rail. This design is intended for rails of uniform width. The best part about this project is that you will be able to match the fabric to the bedding in your child's nursery. And, if you want to cover multiple rails, it will be very affordable to do so.
